After four matchdays so far in La Liga, resurgence seems to be the word of the month for a lot of teams. Teams such as Real Sociedad, Levante, and Racing Santander now refuse to just succumb to their opponent’s much more illustrious name and chose to fight back. When facing a more talented opponent, now these teams play cautious and counter-attacking football without committing too many people up front. This evolution of Spanish game is probably owed to the fact that Messi and Ronaldo were breaking goalscoring records left and right which in turn brought a lot of question to La Liga’s defensive quality.
The opening day big wins of Real Madrid and Barcelona, in addition to the discussion over disparity in TV rights money, seemed to have brought a sense of dissension amongst the other 18 teams in the league. Valencia, Atletico Madrid, and Real Betis are enjoying great success so far due to their team and manager quality, and if we add Villarreal, Sevilla, Malaga and Athletic Bilbao to the mix then we can see how high the level of competition is this season in La Liga.
